Car rental with a driver in Rwanda means the vehicle and a local driver come as one booking, from $120 a day in Kigali or $200 a day for an SUV upcountry, with fuel paid separately. You get the car, the driver and the route knowledge in a single plan.
With a driver or self-drive?
Both work in Rwanda. The right choice depends on how comfortable you are driving on unfamiliar hill roads, how much time you want to spend planning, and whether you would rather look out of the window than at the road.

If you drive yourself
Keep in mind that UK travel advice is to carry an International Driving Permit with your licence. Rwanda drives on the right, and speed cameras enforce limits of 40, 60 and 80 km/h. Outside the towns, roads outside towns are largely unlit after dark, so long drives are best finished before evening.

These are common shapes for a trip with one car and one driver. Each day is priced at the rate for that part of the country, and the full plan is confirmed with you before you travel.

What is included
Every booking includes the driver and the car. Fuel is not included and is confirmed with your quote, and national park fees and activities are paid separately. On multi-day trips we confirm in the quote how the driver’s overnight costs are handled, so the total is clear before you go.
Choosing the vehicle
For the parks and the longer routes, an SUV is the usual choice; for city days, a sedan is comfortable and economical. Tell us your group size, luggage and route, and we suggest the right vehicle when we check availability.
Crossing borders
Trips into Uganda, Tanzania or DR Congo involve extra paperwork for the vehicle and the driver, so they are confirmed case by case. If your plans cross a border, mention it in your request.
How to book
Send us your dates, route ideas, group size and any fixed points such as a gorilla trekking permit or a flight. We review availability, match a driver and a vehicle, and reply with a daily plan and a price. Nothing is booked until you confirm.
