Driving prices in Rwanda, 2026.
A private driver in Rwanda costs from $40 for an airport pickup, $70 for a half day, $120 for a full day in Kigali and $200 a day for an SUV upcountry, with the car included and fuel extra. Fuel costs about RWF 2,930 a litre (September 2026).

These are our starting prices for a driver with a car. Each one is a from price: the exact figure depends on your route, date, vehicle and timing, and it is confirmed manually before you travel.

What a driver price includes
The price covers a trusted local driver and the car, so you do not arrange a separate rental or find parking yourself. Fuel is not included and is confirmed with your quote. National park fees, permits and activities are paid separately, as are your own meals and accommodation.
On multi-day trips, ask how the driver’s own overnight costs are handled. We confirm that in your quote, so there are no surprises later.
Fuel in 2026
In Rwanda, pump prices are set by the regulator, RURA, and revised from time to time. In 2026 petrol has cost RWF 2,938 a litre since 17 April 2026, and diesel was about RWF 2,927 a litre in late September 2026. Because fuel is paid separately, a long upcountry route costs more to run than a city day, so we include the fuel arrangement when we confirm your quote.

If you are weighing a driver against other ways to get around, these are the official tariffs. Street prices are often agreed before the ride, and the ride-hail apps serve Kigali only.

What changes a quote
- The route and total distance, including any return drive
- The date and start time, especially very early or late starts
- The vehicle: a sedan for the city, an SUV for parks and long routes

Days that affect road travel
Two regular events are worth knowing when you plan. Umuganda community work runs on the last Saturday of each month, from 7 to 11am, and the roads are quiet while it lasts. Kigali has car-free mornings on the first and third Sunday of the month, from 7 to 10am, so some central roads close to cars.
